one. Made New : 52 Devotions for Catholic Women. I love the simple weekly format, the inclusion of a good portion of applicable Scripture to read, it’s beautiful and well written with thoughtful questions to ponder.
two. Daily Lessons from the Saints : 52 Weeks of Inspiration and Encouragement. This devotional has a Saint of the week that coincides with their Feast Day week. There is a weekly lesson broken down into small daily snippets keep this devotional still very manageable. I think it’s very pretty and includes Scripture during the week to get you to open your Bible along with some questions to think or journal about.
three. Small Steps for Catholic Moms : Your Daily Call to Think, Pray, and Act. I really appreciate the call to action for each day. It comes in a compact size and short daily reads. Each day it has the format : Think – a quote from a Saint, Pray – a short 1-3 sentence prayer, Act – a small action. I don’t feel bad if I miss a few days, because life, but I really love this format and it’s simplicity.
four. Nunc Coepi : A Year of Prayer. This one kind of surprised me. The format wasn’t exactly what I expected it to be but I ended up liking it. I enjoy the short quote or Scripture each day and then it follows a lectio divina meditation. I didn’t realize that part would be the same every day but it makes sense. It’s trying to create a habit of daily prayer. The compact size is great for putting in my bag, and I really like the soft leather. It’s beautiful in hand.
five. Bible in a Year Podcast & GuideVol. 1. Daren and I started this last year when it was first released. We did it every single day up until July 22 when our two month old daughter, Capri, died. The podcast is free, wherever you listen to podcasts and you can also use YouTube which has the video format with the words Father Mike is saying for the whole podcast episode. I really like having the guide and I use it daily after listening to the podcast for journaling. I learned so much last year and wished I had kept a journal, so I picked a small journal [b6 slim size] and I write whatever I learned, or a prayer or copy the Scripture from that day. While the guide is not required for the free podcast, I love that it has pictures when he is describing something!
I hope you enjoy these as much as I do or at least found a new one to get you through the year and grow your faith.
aloha, Jane
